The approach in to National Harbor, Maryland is an exciting one…a ferris wheel can be seen from miles away!
I remember my excitement escalating as I snapped this shot from the passenger seat of my boyfriend’s car. At this point, little did I know what a unique experience this small, touristy town had to offer. Picture a few city blocks lined with nothing but restaurants, stores, cafes and bars of all kinds — certainly enough variety to satisfy everyone’s taste in food, dessert, drinks and shopping.
The streets open up into a downtown area with dining options featuring beautiful panoramic views of the harbor and the Capital Wheel.
The other end of town (just a 10 minute walk down the street) contains hotels and lodging where visitors can stay over night. Among them is the hotel where my boyfriend and I stayed — the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center. The differentiating feature about this hotel is its grand atrium! Where else can you feel like you’re outside but won’t get wet in the rain….
After exploring National Harbor itself you can check out its surrounding towns by water taxi. Just another perk of this destination — once you parked your car, you won’t need it again until you’re ready to leave! Water taxis are offered to Alexandria, Virginia, Georgetown, and National Mall. I had already been to Washington D.C., so Alexandria sounded most appealing to me.
And Lord of the Rings themed pubs….
What more could you ask for?!
