Imagine gazing out into an open field filled with acres upon acres of vibrant sunflowers. If you’re in the northern NJ area or are interested in taking a day trip to venture to Hackettstown, NJ, imagine no more! A few years ago I had the pleasure of taking a drive to Donaldson Farms and witnessed one of the most beautiful sites I had seen in New Jersey. I’d never been to a sunflower farm before and my experience at Donaldson’s was no disappointment.
They offer a Sunflower Tour on a hayride pulled by a tractor that’s approximately an hour in length. Several stops are made along the tour to allow for photos in their most picturesque locations.
They encourage you to enter a photo into their yearly photo contest. I entered this one:
A “Bug Safari” is offered along the tour for children (or adults as you can see, my friend and I participated 🙂 )
And found a very awesome looking locust:
It’s such a happy place, even the flowers themselves are smiling…
The ONLY downside to this is that there is a very small window that sunflower season is in which is around the end of August through mid – September. I suggest to start planning at the beginning of August in order to prevent missing the season (as I did the previous three years)!
